The Bold Eclectic Home

A client working with an NGO in Delhi approached us to style her 3 BHK rental apartment– seeking a fusion of eclecticism, tradition, and modernity. Originally hailing from Kolkata, she wanted to honor her roots and replenish the living space, especially with vibrant paintings.

Since the client was not too keen on repainting her walls, we facilitated the revitalization through colors and patterns in lively fabrics and art.

As per her wish, in support of home-grown brands, we sourced most of the original artwork from artists in Kolkata and décor items from locally home-grown businesses– which was kept minimal yet impactful along with an addition of lots of plants.

The inspiration behind the garden-fresh character of the home came from nature itself– as is evident from the poetic floral patterns and an abundance of green leaves. The perfect environment for inspiration, growth, blooming, and flourishing.

With careful consideration so as not to clutter the space and to restore its previous lightness while uplifting its candor gradient– we integrated the new elements subtly so as not to disturb its equilibrium. Post renewal, the space was more vibrant and energized.

Through bold and vivid art complementing and contrasting the creamy walls and the floor– it was made sure that they did not overpower them. Instead, it came out to be a happy marriage between the palettes and the base.

The harmony of the space and its elements were further solidified through warm lighting, flooding every corner and nook of the space. Lighting is equivalent to the colors on the walls– it changes everything from the character to the emotion of the space.

While we reupholstered and repurposed the existing furniture as much as possible, we customized the newly sourced pieces according to the client’s taste and requirements. For instance, we repurposed the sofas, chairs, and the bench while the bar counter was constructed to embrace the functional aspect– which was always preferred over the space’s demeanor.

For instance, a bed table was added to the mattress to utilize the space better while complementing the visuals.

It is a collection of little things that create the overall impact and elaborate the purpose.

The sharp yet balanced lines between the various functional and spatial realms make the space seem kempt and articulate– each sphere rousing a specific activity. For instance, the counter is perfectly placed in the vicinity of the huge window, inviting one to perch and read with a cup of tea– the light that floods in is abundant, and the view of trees is grounding and refreshing.

We achieved most of the project in a virtual mode– except for the later days of assembling, customizing, and breathing into it the final charm.

The aesthetics of the space and its cultural significance for the client holds an appeal of congeniality, comfort, and pride. The unique touch that comes from one’s life story, aspirations, and memories as an individual– causes their home to have a unique fingerprint of its own.
